The comedian turned TV host, 35, hit the headlines this weekend after he lost out on a £150,000 cash prize on ‘The Chase’. Dommett was beaten by ITV star Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan after he rejected her hefty jackpot offer and ultimately lost after 11 tiles in the show’s final round. The presenter, who hosts ‘The Masked Singer’, also appeared on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ four years ago, where he discussed how he was misled online. Despite embarrassment from the social media betrayal, when a video of him performing a sex act was posted, he met future wife Hannah Cooper on Instagram. In surprise comments, he made a number of quips about her ‘chat-up’ line and admitted he clearly was “too trusting” a person.

In his autobiography, ‘It’s Not Me, It’s Them’, Dommett revealed that his 17-year-old self had set a goal to bed 40 women – and bizarrely after that target was met he found his future wife.

He told the ‘Loose Women’ panel two years ago, that he “had some bad experiences” and that it was a “rocky road” before it ultimately “worked out well in the end”.

The star gushed that she was “the best thing that happened” to him and explained the romantic way he proposed that year.

He “forced her” to read the “first version” of the book but “ripped out the final page” where he detailed his plan to propose, dressed in a tuxedo with 200 candles.

Dommett recalled: “I realised on that day how hot a small london flat gets with 200 candles in – I was sweating profusely.

“When I asked her, she said ‘I’m wearing a Rod Stewart t-shirt, I’m too underdressed for this’ and then she said ‘Yes’, which was great.”

The star went onto quip: “That is the modern equivalent of the old phrase was ‘You had me at hello,’ now it’s like ‘You had me at cat heart emoji.’”

Fortunately, he confessed she was a “real person” and explained: “We just got on super well immediately.

“We went on a lovely first date. This is now what we do for every anniversary, we replicate our first date together.”

Despite the blunt snub about the approach of his future wife – which he joked wasn’t very romantic – he married her last year.

Dommett warned that people should be “very careful” online, he said: “That’s kind of why I spoke about it, a little bit, because it’s happening to people all the time.

“It’s mad the amount of people who get in touch with me and go ‘This happened to me too and they [extorted] me for loads of money’.

“It’s like really happening a lot so if I can give a little bit of awareness to it, if it happens to someone at school or something, they can go ‘Maybe this person is not real and too good to be true’ then they wont reply to it.”
