Actor Ben Stiller has taken to Twitter to announce the death of his father, Jerry Stiller. He wrote: “I’m sad to say that my father, Jerry Stiller, passed away from natural causes.
“He was a great dad and grandfather, and the most dedicated husband to Anne for about 62 years.
“He will be greatly missed. Love you Dad.”
Many of the actor’s fans flocked to his post to send their condolences.
Actress Morgan Fairchild commented: “So very sorry to hear this, Ben.
“He was always a joy to be around, as was your wonderful mother. Sending love and condolences to you and your family.”
Another fan wrote: “I’m so sad to hear that. He made King of Queens my favourite show growing up.”
A third penned: “OMG, I am so sorry, I loved his work. May he rest in eternal peace.”
Jerry was widely known for playing George Costanzas’ father Frank in the NBC sitcom Seinfeld for five years.
This role won him the American Comedy Award for Funniest Male Guest Appearance in a TV Series.
He also played Arthur Spooner in the comedy series The King Of Queens.
Jerry and his late wife Anne starred alongside their son Ben in many films including Zoolander, Zoolander 2 and Hot Pursuit.
In earlier years, they appeared together on a series of TV shows, including the Ed Sullivan Show.
Away from the spotlight, Jerry served in the US Army during World War Two.
He later met his wife Anne Meara, who he married in 1953.
Jerry released his autobiography titled Married to Laughter about his 50-plus year marriage in 2000.
